Inkwell is a fast, privacy-first PDF editor that runs completely offline, keeping your files under your control. Open a document, click the text you want to change, and type. Highlight, draw, stamp, sign, rearrange pages, and convert between PDF, Word, and JPG — all without your files ever leaving your machine. No uploads, no accounts, no subscriptions, no internet required.
Edit text like it's a text document
Most PDF tools make you work around the text. Inkwell lets you work in it.
- Rewrite any line — click directly on existing text and type your correction. Done.
- Add text anywhere — click an empty spot and start writing.
- Real typography control — choose between Helvetica, Times, and Courier; set any size from 6 to 96 pt; combine bold and italic; pick any text color you like.
- Change your mind freely — click any edit to rewrite it again, or remove it with one click.
Annotate and draw
Everything you need to mark up a contract, review a draft, or fill in a form:
- Highlighter — drag over content for a translucent highlight in any color.
- Whiteout — cover anything that shouldn't be there with a clean white box.
- Freehand pen — draw and write naturally, with adjustable stroke width and color.
- Shapes — rectangles, ellipses, lines, and arrows for callouts and diagrams.
- Check & cross stamps — approve or reject with crisp vector ✓ and ✗ marks. Place, drag, resize.
- Images — drop a PNG or JPG logo, photo, or scan onto any page, then move and resize it freely.
Sign like you mean it
Draw your signature with your mouse or stylus on Inkwell's signing pad. The stroke width responds to the speed of your hand — fast flourishes thin out, deliberate curves stay bold — so it looks like ink, not a crayon line. Choose black or blue, place it on the page, fine-tune position and size, and reuse the same signature across as many pages and documents as you need.
Take control of your pages
Each page carries its own mini toolbar:
- Rotate left or right in 90° steps
- Reorder pages by moving them up or down
- Delete pages — with the ability to restore them anytime before export
A workspace that stays out of your way
Zoom from 40% to 300% or snap to fit-width. A live counter shows your pending changes. Undo the last step, clear everything, or hover over any single edit and remove just that one. When you're satisfied, hit Download PDF and every change is baked into a clean, standard PDF that opens anywhere.

Four everyday conversions, no online service required:

This is the part that matters most: your documents never leave your computer. Inkwell doesn't upload, sync, phone home, or even need an internet connection. Contracts, medical records, financial statements — they stay exactly where they belong: with you.
